Doris Duke Foundation
A website designed to dare differently

Founded in 1996, the Doris Duke Foundation is one of the United States’s leading philanthropic forces. But its website hardly reflected its profound mission: to foster a creative, equitable, and sustainable future. Building on a recently completed visual identity designed by Pentagram, we created a new digital expression to fully express the Foundation’s goal to “Dare differently”—with interdisciplinary thinking, rigorous analysis, and tangible, systemic impact.

Leading with ideas
The website adopts a thematic content strategy focused on seven “big ideas,” each one relating to the Foundation’s programmatic goals. These ideas are woven throughout the user experience, transforming the website into a dynamic platform for exploration, dialogue, and connection. Multiple opportunities for content curation further positions the Foundation as a trusted thought leader on the subjects it—and its public—care about.

A fuller picture
For the first time, the site also brings the larger scope of the Foundation’s work to life. It highlights the Foundation’s global centers; introduces the people behind the work; and tells a more immersive story about individual grants and initiatives. A new search function along with robust, easy-to-use navigation make it easy for users to find what they need—and to understand the depth and impact of the Foundation’s work.
