Chicago.com, a Chicago Public Media initiative, is the web destination & forum for residents and visitors to navigate Chicago. In anticipation of the launch of the full site, they approached Decimal to create a teaser website aimed at inspiring curiosity, driving excitement, and building community membership.

Working with filmmaker Zackary Canepari, we utilized documentary photography & archival footage and placed the content onto a unique non-linear layout. The footage told stories of the beloved second city and the history of its residents, uncovering hidden gems and sharing neighborhood specific stories.

The result is a tactically playful user experience reminiscent of navigating a city in search of its best kept secrets while driving donations and sign up for the full site launch. All the while, inspiring residents & visitors to learn about chicago.com’s plans to create a next generation forum where users will share recommendations, ask questions, and engage with their community.
