Unedo: Spanish games + stories
From lean experimentation to full product launch

Unedo initially approached us, looking for a long term partner to build the MVP of its product vision; the goal being to get to user validation as soon as possible in order to inform longer term product vision and development.
In about five months, we designed and built the core experience together, allowing Unedo to run a two month trial run with a select audience. We spent the next 10 months working together off the received feedback to design and build the first proper iteration of what is now Unedo.

At its core, Unedo is a language learning app which provides users with curated games and editorial content, mixing language and culture into a unique learning experience. Games are refreshed daily, and completing them earns users Sparks, short tidbits of cultural content which further a user’s immersion into the language he is learning. A user can save his Sparks as well as more complex idioms and associated definitions for easy reference.

Some months after the initial launch, Unedo launched Practice, the most requested feature by users. A way for users to keep on exercising their skills daily through repetition. The latter is an essential concept in language learning, and allowing users who have completed the day’s content to continue their learning experience was always a core part of Unedo’s strategy. Practice sets are custom built with parts of each set being unique to a user’s experience, drawing from their saved words (highlights).

Less than a year after its original launch, Unedo has just released its freemium model and monetization strategy. As a self funded startup, the ability to generate revenue is essential to its survival and long term success. Users are now offered free content which they can upgrade by purchasing a passport which unlocks the full experience.

Unedo features advanced customer engagement tools with trigger based messaging which accompanies users through their entire lifecycle; from lead to signed-up users, to paying members of the application. Users receive a personalized email each week which draws from their week’s consumption and engagement, re-affirming their achievements and suggesting additional paths to further their experience.
